Merlin Information Manager

Location: Bedfordshire


Are you organised, excited about documents and familiar with the benefits that SharePoint can bring? If so we need you! We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to help implement and lead the RSPB's conservation information management programme. Joining the Conservation Data Management Unit, you will have experience of information, data and/or document management, preferably with expertise in using Microsoft SharePoint software or similar.


A good communicator, highly computer literate and with some experience of managing projects, you will work to direct, promote and develop information management across our conservation programmes. You will be a great team player, able to work with all our conservation teams to design and implement document management to best effect for each team. You'll train and inspire colleagues in using SharePoint in a way that integrates with our GIS system Merlin. You'll lead on developing our information policies and a positive culture that enables everyone to benefit from and appreciate all that information management can achieve.


Your role will be at the heart of the RSPB's conservation work, ensuring that our conservation information is available and well-managed so that only the best decisions for wildlife are made.


£20,000 to £24,000 pa

Volunteering Development Officer

Location: Oxfordshire


Are you an experienced volunteer manager who can inspire others to step up and support our work through volunteering? You will lead the Midlands region on all aspects of our volunteering, working closely across the regional team, supporting and training staff and looking for new ways to attract volunteers. You'll ensure we offer a wide range of relevant opportunities to potential volunteers and that existing volunteers are offered a first class experience. You will also manage our network of RSPB local groups.


£18,000 to £21,000 pa

Field Teacher

Location: Teesside


We require a field teacher to join our team to help us deliver an exciting programme of curriculum-linked activities to school children and community groups at the Saltholme reserve. You will be guaranteed 5 six hour days per month (ideally flexibly) delivering or supporting the team in April - July, thereafter as and when required dependant on school bookings. You will have a good standard of education, abundant enthusiasm and the ability to inspire young people in the natural world and nature conservation. Previous teaching experience and knowledge of and an interest in wildlife would be an advantage.


£10.85 per hour


Hours: Part time, A minimum guaranteed 5 days per month April - July (15 weeks over period)(6 hour days) thereafter as and when required depending on school bookings.
Contract: 1st April 2012 to 31st August (40% part funded through 5-year HLF grant)

Field Officers

Location: Perthshire/Angus


We are recruiting for a number of Field Officer positions to work on four important species projects. There are a range of posts available across Tayside in the 2012 breeding season, carrying out surveys of lowland waders, upland raptors, black grouse and red kite. Further details of the posts available can be found on the RSPB website.


The posts will require survey work experience and the commitment and perseverance to survey species in remote locations. The applicant should be a good communicator and have the ability to liaise effectively with landowners/managers and other project partners. Competent report writing and data management will also be required.


£14,000 to £15,000 pa

Youth Officer

Location: Edinburgh


RSPB Scotland's youth officer inspires young people across Scotland about the natural world! Our youth officer supports the management of the RSPB's work engaging with young people, recruiting and training volunteer Wildlife Explorer and Phoenix leaders and increasing the profile of RSPB Scotland's work with children of all ages. You will need an enthusiasm for working with children, previous experience delivering fun and exciting activities for young people outdoors, and an understanding of how to work with volunteers across the country. Importantly, we're looking for someone who enjoys the natural world and wants to motivate others to do the same!


£20,000 to £22,000 pa pro rata

Information Assistant

Research Assistant

Location: Cumbria


The main purpose of this post is to conduct an agreed programme of monitoring of breeding bird populations at RSPB's Geltsdale reserve, along with indices of predator and small mammal abundance and vegetation assessments. Within this remit, the research assistant will, where appropriate, assist in defining study plots, liaise closely with relevant reserve staff, prepare appropriate field maps, establish a daily work programme which will ensure that the data are collected effectively, and carry out the specified programme of data collection. All the data should be correctly recorded on the appropriate forms and maps, and all original field maps and completed data recording forms returned to supervisor in agreed format with appropriate explanatory notes.


Work is likely to require long and unsociable hours in the field, whenever weather conditions are suitable. The research assistant will be based at RSPB's Geltsdale reserve, northern England. Throughout the field season the research assistant will work with limited direct supervision. Frequent travel by car will be required to visit study plots.


£13,000 to £14,000 pa
